St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin is one of Ireland’s most awe-inspiring landmarks, brimming with over 800 years of history. Built in 1220, it stands as the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland and is the largest cathedral in the country.
What You’ll See
Inside, you’re greeted by magnificent Gothic architecture, colorful stained-glass windows, and an intricate tiled floor. One highlight is the Door of Reconciliation, tied to the origin of the phrase “to chance your arm.” Another is the burial place of Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver’s Travels and former Dean of the Cathedral.
There’s a Discovery Space with touch-screen displays and choir music recordings, immersing you in its living history. The cathedral has been a site of worship since St. Patrick himself baptized converts nearby over 1,500 years ago.
Visitor Experience
A self-guided tour takes around 40 minutes, allowing you to explore at your own pace. It’s located at Patrick Street & Upper Kevin Street, close to Christ Church Cathedral and Dublinia Museum.
Hop-On Hop-Off buses stop right outside, and it’s only a 16-minute walk from Trinity College Dublin.
